1. All manuscripts submitted to BMB Reports are subject to peer review in accordance with these guidelines.
  2. The peer review will take place under the following conditions:
    1. The Association will ask an editor recommended by the Editor-in-Chief to select two reviewers. (The editor can be one of the two reviewers).
    2. Once two reviewers are selected, the Editor-in-Chief will assign the manuscript to them.
    3. The managing editor will make a final judgment on a manuscript based on the review results.
  3. All the parties involved in the review process shall not disclose the names of the reviewers to the author or anyone else.
  4. All the parties involved in the review process shall not disclose the content of the manuscript reviewed to a third party.
  5. Possible decisions on a manuscript can be Accept, Minor Revision, Major Revision, or Reject.
  6. A manuscript that does not require further revision will receive a recommendation of Accept and will be published in BMB Reports. When a manuscript needs only English editing, it will also receive a recommendation of Accept and will be edited by an expatriate editor.
  7. A manuscript will receive a Minor Revision evaluation if it requires some changes due to one of the following reasons itemized below. The manuscript and reviewer's recommendations will be returned to the author for his or her revision. The managing editor will review the revised manuscript to ascertain whether or not the author's revisions have accommodated reviewer's recommendations. After review, the managing editor will make a final decision on the manuscript.
    1. Results of the study are clear and interesting, but they are not described in a logical and cohesive way.
    2. Results of the study are clear and interesting, but interpretation of the results and discussion are not acceptable.
    3. Results of the study are clear and interesting, but tables and illustrations are not correctly numbered or poorly explained.
    4. Results of the study are clear and interesting, but illustrations are not suitable for publication.
    5. Results of the study are clear and interesting, but the manuscript requires some other text changes.
  8. A manuscript will receive a Major Revision evaluation if it is not acceptable due to one of the following reasons itemized below. The managing editor will inform the author of the reasons for Major Revision evaluation. If the author submits the manuscript after revision, the managing editor will decide whether it is acceptable or needs further review.
    1. More data and information on results are required to make manuscript content complete.
    2. Major revisions are required to make manuscript content clear.
    3. Other critical revisions are required.
  9. A manuscript will receive a Reject evaluation when it is considered unacceptable due to one of the following reasons itemized below. The managing editor will inform the author of the reasons for a Reject evaluation.
    1. A manuscript does not describe new findings.
    2. It is difficult to accept results of the study due to critical errors contained in the text.
    3. Manuscript content is not sufficient.
    4. Manuscript content is not suitable for publication in BMB Reports.
  10. Reviewers are required to return the manuscript and their detailed comments to the Association within 15days after receiving a manuscript for review.
  11. If a reviewer fails to complete his review within 30days after receiving a manuscript, the reviewer should return both the manuscript and the fee to the Association.
  12. When a manuscript is submitted to an overseas editor, the editor will select a reviewer and make his or her judgment on the manuscript based on review results. Then the editor will inform the Editorial Board about his or her decision.
